Each summer, students from across the country meet to mount three productions with professionals within the industry in a one-of-a-kind experience. They work as a traditional company, each member participating in all aspects.
Summer Stock Austin is a tuition free summer program for high school and college students. The participants are selected solely on the basis of their demonstrated talent, promise and character. The selected students perform, design, build and assist in every aspect of a theatrical production.
For the 2016 season they will be performing the following 3 productions;
Addams Family: July 22 – August 13
THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
Carnival: August 3 – August 13
CARNIVAL! has all of the elements of a fairytale. The difference between this story and the traditional ones we tell our children is that Lili, Paul, Marco and the other characters interest adults too! With Bob Merrill as composer and lyricist, Michael Stewart as librettist, David Merrick producing, and Gower Champion as director and choreographer CARNIVAL! was destined to be a huge success. The show received acclaim for its ‘magic,’ ‘simplicity’ and ‘compassion’ when it opened on Broadway, and continues to grace stages and bring smiles to audiences worldwide.
The Steadfast Tin Soldier: July 24 – August 13
From the creative mind of Allen Robertson of the Biscuit Brothers comes this brand new fun family musical! Based on the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER is about a toy tin soldier and his unyielding love for a nearby paper ballerina. Facing a series of adventures and adversaries, the Tin Soldier must overcome great odd for the sake of his true love.
