Prior to starting Vintage IT Services more than 20 years ago, my wife Sheryl and I had considerable experience working for and with Fortune 500 companies and large government institutions.   These large organizations approached IT strategically: leveraging their available IT budget to implement systems that improved their efficiency and success.   Our goal, when we started Vintage, was to bring the strategic benefits of IT to smaller businesses at a price they could afford.   We wanted to show them that IT was not just a cost center but a valuable way to make their business more profitable and to protect their business from bad actors.  This remains our goal today.

In the early days we met a lot of resistance.   We had client owners who did not understand the value even of having anti-virus systems or battery power supplies and surge protectors behind their most expensive equipment.   Some owners wondered why they should pay someone to apply patches and security updates.   They seemed to think, “it is working just fine right now,” and would leave it at that (until something bad happened).   Very few small business executives would ask questions like, “What might I do today so my computers won’t fail tomorrow?” or “I can’t afford for my staff to be unable to work during downtime.   What do I have to implement today to keep my systems and information safe from bad actors?”

Thankfully, the small and medium-sized business owners and executives of today are far more sophisticated.   They know the right business tools in the right place, such as a Cloud system, will make their employees more productive.   They want multi-layered, multi-faceted protection from security threats—against both malicious code and malicious humans.  They not only want backups, but they also want a plan for disaster recovery in a timely fashion.

Vintage IT Services focuses on servicing clients who value IT, demand a return on their IT investments, and approach IT strategically.   IT is not just a cost center but a crucial component of our clients’ business.  

Most IT managed service providers have very good software tools, like we do.  Most MSPs have very skilled technicians, like we do.  While we are confident our talent and tools stack up, we go a step further.  We dedicate human capital to our clients in the form of a vCIO (or fractional CIO), and an analyst focused on aligning our clients with IT best practices.  They do not perform this work on the side; it’s their sole job to audit, understand, and document how our clients’ businesses use IT, and apply that information to inform our clients’ executive business strategy.  

From early on, our motto has remained: “It’s not about technology.  It’s about your business.”  We’re proud to have helped many of our clients achieve great success, and we’re as enthusiastic as ever about continuing this work.
