Celebrating a Legend: The Retirement of Jody Denberg from KUTX

This week, I, Sandra Antoun Crites, Director of Sales & Marketing, have the pleasure of personally writing the newsletter. I wanted to take a moment to highlight a true Austin legend, Jody Denberg from KUTX.

Last week, during a dinner conversation with my husband, Carter Crites, we found ourselves reminiscing about the legendary Jody Denberg’s recent retirement announcement. Jody’s influence on Austin’s music scene is undeniable, and Carter made a point to copy Jody’s list of favorite tracks into his Apple Music playlist. As he reflected, Carter realized he had literally grown up with Jody’s voice as the soundtrack to his life.

Born and raised in Austin, Carter is 45 years old and remembers Jody as a constant presence on the airwaves. It struck us that many locals probably share this experience—having Jody accompany us through various stages of our lives. I moved to Austin in 2007, and since then, I’ve been an avid listener of KUTX and Jody Denberg. Although neither of us have had the pleasure of meeting him, Jody has made his way into our homes, his soothing voice and impeccable playlists becoming part of our daily lives.

As Jody steps down from his role at KUTX, we’re reminded of the impact he has had on all of us. But rest assured, KUTX is still going strong and will continue to bring us the great music and programming we’ve come to love. We’re confident that whoever steps into Jody’s shoes will bring their own spark and keep the station’s legacy of excellence alive.

Vintage IT Services has been proud to be a part of the KUTX Business Circle sponsorship for several years now. The Business Circle is a group of like-minded local businesses that value their relationship with KUT and KUTX and our public service. Business Circle Memberships are ideal for companies looking to support public media and gain a bit of airtime as well. During their annual Spring and Fall Membership Drives, businesses can have their names read at least once per day for more than two weeks and are included in the online KUT and KUTX Business Member Directory for a full year. Membership even includes participation in the Leadership Circle for one year.

We appreciate the opportunity to hear our name during the sponsorship circle events at such an affordable price. Over the years, we’ve also heard the names of our clients and partners during these drives, highlighting how valuable KUTX is to the city of Austin and the local business community.

We want to take a moment to express our gratitude to Jody for his dedication and for all the musical memories he has created for us locals. Thank you, Jody, for the years of incredible music, and congratulations on your well-deserved retirement. We’ve included the full story on Jody’s retirement here  for those who would like to read more about his journey.

Let’s all raise a glass (or turn up the volume) in celebration of Jody Denberg—a true Austin legend. Here’s to the music and memories that will continue to inspire us for years to come!
