Top technology experts at ZDNet checked their digital crystal balls to play their own game of “Back to the Future”, going ahead to 2045. They suggest that the travel is more likely to be in a Tesla than a DeLorean. At Vintage IT Services, where we are currently providing Managed IT Services, Hosted Desktops, Hosted Exchange, IT consulting, IT security, and Cloud Services, we thought it would be fun to share some of their predictions.
Robots: Technology is born of the human imagination. That’s why robots will seem familiar in the next thirty years. Advances in sensor technology suggest that soft-skinned robots will walk among us.
The personal network and the future of the smartphone: Who, 30 years ago, would have imagined that phones would be transformed into thin slate-like devices and that they would also be computers that connected wirelessly? The personal network will join all of our mobile devices seamlessly. Smartphones will be a hub of information that brokers your personal preferences between all other things. Perhaps it will even get back to being a phone for voice communications.
Wearable biometric sensor networks: In 30 years, people will routinely be “configured” with wearable sensor networks that collect biometric data. These will eliminate the need for most routine healthcare visits. The sensors likely to be tiny implants.
The future of shipping: The world’s trade will still be carried by ships on the sea, but the ships will emit zero emissions as they ply the waters under power of liquid natural gas, electricity, and other alternative energy sources.
The future of the data center: 30 years from now, today’s notion of “big” data will seem quaint, and performing analytics will seem routine. Analytics will be real-time by default.
In 2045, the first wave of millennials will enter retirement and try to find ways to retain a decent lifestyle while managing the demands of the new world. Not all of the rest of the predictions may come true. As Doc said, the future hasn’t been written yet, so let’s make it a good one!
